Smiling People

First Visit

We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to our office.  During this time, we will help you get acquainted with our office and learn about your orthodontic treatment.  Your initial appointment will consist of a thorough examination to help us gain insight into your orthodontic needs. During the initial examination for each patient, Dr. Benton and his treatment coordinators will address the following questions which cover the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.

  • Is this a condition that orthodontics can address?
  • Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
  • What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
  • Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
  • How long will treatment take?
  • How much will it cost?
  • What are my payment options?

If orthodontic therapy is indicated, diagnostic records will be recommended.  This includes various xrays, photographs, and bite measurements along with an intraoral scan of your teeth that provides us with a three dimensional image of your teeth on our computer screen.  The scanner replaces the messy impressions or moldings that are required at other offices.  Our patients absolutely love being able to avoid the impression taking procedures at the records appointment!

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:

  • Any panoramic X-ray taken within the past six months.
  • If you have orthodontic insurance, bring your insurance card. By providing this information at the first visit, we will be able to give you an estimate of your costs.
